1. Does the BIOS show a floppy drive?
2. CODE 39 failures are often caused by FILTERS installed by antivirus and other softwares. If your Antivirus license runs out, the filter fails and this happens. Here's a note about UPPERFILTERS (and lower) and the floppy drive -> http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=812489
This article is a fix you should try even if you did not upgrade to XP -> http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=817196
I happened to look at Device Manager and noticed the yellow ! on my floppy drive and tried the standard uninstall > restart fix but it does not work. My Computer shows no floppy drive. The note on startup is:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
I used an NTI backup - restore for
but that didn't help.
I almost never use the floppy but several weeks ago I installed a Flashpath adapter just to see if it worked before selling it. I uninstalled Flashpath and that is the last thing I remember doing with the floppy.
Any suggestions for a fix would be appreciated.
