floppy drive

every time i load a floppy in the drive it comes up as write protected yet when i load the same floppy disc into another computer it is okay. i am running xp the tab on the disc has not been moved
much appreciated if anyone can help thankyou

If you can get a known working drive just unplug the power and ribbon cables from the drive that is not working and plug them into the good drive and see what happens,(power off the computer before you do this).

Some software can cause a problem such as this. QuickBooks 2002 was causing my floppy drive to act silly, and I had to upgrade to v.2003 to get rid of the problem.
I noticed that every time I closed QB02 that it tried to access the floppy and took forever to shut down. I didn't have this problem when I was running win98.
This may not be your fix, but it is something to think about. Good luck.
