Question

Flicking Icons on Desk Top

Feb 12, 2015 1:50AM PST

Win-Vista Ace Aspire T180, memory 2. GB, 32 bit.

This started about a week ago. I use Chrome as my browser and when I connect to Chrome or Explorer the Desk top Icons flicker back and forth to white to regular. I used drifferent spyware programs and AVG virus protector scanned all in Save mode. . I cleared all unwanted programs. I tried system restore but said a error occured.

I did notice when I restart my computer there is a program running just it's closes so fast I can not see what it is. I have nothing but 3 microsoft programs in the Start up. After checking in Safe Mode and restarted the computer it was still running a program in the background. I thought that in safe mode nothing should be running in the background.

Hope someone can help.

Thank you "R" I will check out both links and get back to you if it was helpful. I clicked on Explorer today and it does not make the Icon's flicker, just when I go on line using Chrome. So I may switch back to Explorer if I can not fix what's causing the problem except for what ever is running in the bkgd.

Thanks a bunch!

I did use download AUTORUNS and explore some of the things I wasn't sure off on-line.
One thing people were deleting was W3i NetAssistant Freeze.com and I was not able to
delete it. I don't think that would have anything to do with the flicker in the desktop icons, just
something I may not need.

I have Explore log-off sound running in the background, I read you can end process in the task manager.
<div>Wanted to send a scene shot to see what you think I can end process and if it would be

permanent?</div>I guess you can't send a picture from here. Just don't know why explore sound is running in the background when I'm using Chrome for my browser.

Things I see in Question I have 2 chrome. exe's both running is this normal?
1. chome.exe cpu 00 memory 33,920 K Goolge C...
2. chome.exe cpu 00 memory 36,656 K Goolge C...

3. explore.exe cpu 00 memory 6,616 K Windows...
<span style="font-size: 14.4799995422363px;">4. vprot.exe cpu 00 10,012 K VProtect...
<span style="font-size: 14.4799995422363px;">5. WSHelper.exe cpu 00 1,732 K Wondershare...
<span style="font-size: 14.4799995422363px;">

<span style="font-size: 14.4799995422363px;">The link you send on the flickering icons was more about flickering moniters. I tried the trouble shooting
<span style="font-size: 14.4799995422363px;">but going to sound did not help, only sound I saw was for the speckers on the computer.

Thanks Bob Happy Still not sure as what to do. The other day I did uninstall chrome and reinstalled. There were such great praise about Chrome maybe I should uninstall and go back to explorer. Don't know.

Uninstall and reinstall does not remove addons and more.

Chrome or rather Google does document how to reset Chrome. I've done that a few more times than I will admit.

I downloaded adwcleaner_4.111.exe (free) had 3 things it ask and which ones I wanted to keep, I just choose clean, have no idea what they were. Things seem to be ok, except still have flicking icons when I start up Chrome. My computer seem to be quicker opening up things. I closed the side bar really did like having the calender wander if that was slowing the start - up.

Thanks for helping now should I review doing this? Google does document how to reset Chrome.

Or you can put them in the quicklaunch tray.

Here I have my most used in the quicklaunch tray with the rest in the start menu. My desktop stays clean for this and other reasons.

Thank you Bob...I do have a quick launch on the bottom right hand bar at the bottom. I thought that was the icons that are also on my desk-top and if I deleted the shortcuts on the Desk-top it would also delete the one in quick launch.

I still have the flicking Icons and I still have monitor.exe running in the background when I go to shut down. The only good things is with me doing so much cleaning and uninstalling things I don't need and unchecking some start up programs this computer is some what faster Happy I guess I will just keep babying this old thing along.

You have been helping me for a few years and I appreciate your help, just wish I didn't need it.
guess I should just close this post as I don't know what else to do, with your help and my on-line searches I just can't figure it out.

Thanks so much,
Lue
