Fleshing out bugs in video mail service

May 25, 2010 11:34PM PDT

We've created a free video mail service and have the prototype up on http://mailVU.com. We want to test the service from as many points as possible to flesh out any issues. One we quickly discovered was Yahoo sending our video mails into the spam bucket (Gmail doesn't). If anyone has a few minutes to test it out I would appreciate all feedback. Just let me know what browser you are using, the internet connection speed, and the issue encountered. The service is free so outside of testing feel free to use it if it has any value to you. Thanks.

Our video mail is currently in Flash. We identified we also have to convert it to MPEG4 for Apple products as they don't support Flash. Thanks for flagging it. We'll try to get that done in the next week or so.

Just questions form me
May 26, 2010 7:04AM PDT

I had a look even though I don't have a web cam on this machine, (I don't want it to blow to smithereens with videos of me!).

So, I didn't try it, but is this just video, or voice as well?

How secure is it? I didn't see any Privacy statement. I know this is a tester, but such questions may be relevant.

Questions from Mark

Hi Mark, and thanks for taking a look at mailVU.com. To answer your questions, yes it records audio and video. Just click record and talk into your webcam. We have our Privacy Policy and T&Cs at the bottom of the page (scroll down) - very important indeed. For improved privacy we have a self destruct option for every video mail. After recording the user can selection a deletion time, either in number of views or number of days. Tiger may have wished he used this. Happy

Known issues I have right now include 1) keeping Yahoo from putting it into spam, and 2) adding a conversion option to MP4 for iPhone/iPad.

Thanks BallantyneGuy. I should have scrolled all the way down the page. My error.

LOL @ Tiger.
