Flat Screen in Indirect Sunlight

Oct 16, 2005 11:58AM PDT

I have a room that has floor to ceiling windows on three sides, and I want to get a flat screen for the corner. There is a substantial overhang, so direct sunlight does not enter the room (except from 7 to 9 am - not a big deal).

I'm trying to decide between plasma and lcd. If I go with a plasma, it will probably be the Panasonic 42PX50U. At this size, plasma is usually an easy decision since I'm only going to use it for watching tv and an occasional dvd. I'm afraid the indirect sunlight may cause reflection problems. The LCD alternative is either the 40" Sony Bravia XBR or the 40" Samsung LCD.

Does anyone have suggestions on whether to go plasma vs. lcd? Does anyone have any feedback on the new Sony XBRs? I haven't seen a review of one yet.

Thanks

A plasma will stand up to bright room lights better than ANY rear projector! I have seen the XBR they do look good.
Try at a sam's club or Costco, they have the TV upder the big lights on the main floor so it will give you a good idea of how a set handles reflcetions. John

the 40 inch xbr lcd from sony is on back order in quite a few places. it is a very very good tv. if you're able to find it, thats the one i would go with. that tv does run at a really high contrast, and it'll get u a very good picture.

if u can't get that, i'd go with the panasonic plasma over the 40inch samsung. i AM fond of samsung, especially in some of their smaller lcd's, but i'm not too into the 40inch samsung lcd cause the colors just dont "wow" me.
