Flashing red asterisk while downloading .exe file

Nov 10, 2005 9:56PM PST

Dell Dimension 4300
Windows 2000 OS

I'm currently downloading (I think) a rather large .exe file on my computer.
When I open the dialog box I am seeing a red asterisk flash everytime a page(looks like a sheet of paper) from planet earth flies over and inserts itself into the folder.
What is that all about? Is it a bad thing? Will my 4 hours of waiting for this file to download be for naught?

Oh heck

Well I have a larger problem now.
After 2 hours the download stopped. Timed out it said. Now I need to figure out how to download a large file and prevent it from timing out after 2 hours.

I disconnected from my server at work in the hope I don't time out again.

Any thoughts on this?

Downloading again
Nov 10, 2005 11:07PM PST

Went back to where I was downloading from and starded the download again. Oddly enough the download started again where it left off at (28MB)
Still have a red asterisk.

Pavilion, It's Not A Problem..
Nov 11, 2005 1:08AM PST

It's normal and happens on all Internet Explorer downloads.

As to whether the file will be good after a four hour download..You never know..I've never wanted to wait that long so I find a friend or family member with a broadband connection and a CD burner..I download the file on their machine, burn it to a CD, then transfer it to my computer.

Hope this helps.

and download it there. It's not uncommon to have some type of corruption when downloading large files over a dialup connection.
