Resolved Question

Flash video ads

Apr 18, 2015 12:39AM PDT

I have os x 10.7.5 on a macbook and firefox 37.0.1. Can you pls tell me how to block all the ad videos constantly popping up on my screen? Some of them have a little window asking me to allow or deny Adobe Flash Player Settings but when I hit deny nothing happens.

The ad continues to play and the Adobe window won't disappear.

This is unbelievably annoying and there must be a way to block this stuff.

thanks for your help,

Clarification Request
Can you list what Firefox addons you have?
Apr 18, 2015 12:47AM PDT

Some are "adware" and do that. Also there are rogue distributions of Firefox that are build with add on advertising.

There's also FlashBlock and Adblock+ for Firefox if it's not adware.

Hey Bob,

I can't find it to enable it. I tried downloading it again so I could get it to work for me and it did download and install, but I still can't find it Sad It's not in Applications and I did a search but got nothing.

So for now all I can do is note that it's disabled and you may want to google how to configure this add on.

It went to your Downloads folder,
Apr 21, 2015 10:28AM PDT

which is in your Home folder.

Check Safari Preferences, > General "Save Download files to:"...............
It will probably say Downloads.

While you are there, make sure to remove the check mark from "Open Safe Files after downloading"

Hey Bob,

I know that my questions are very infantile in the computer world. I really appreciate your willingness and professionalism to help someone on my level when I know you are able and do answer highly technical and complex questions.

You have always been gracious.

Thanks again,

Rita

You helped too.

You were able to get a list of the extensions so we could focus. That's a skilled user. Your unskilled user ends up at a store counter.
