And only across 6 cameras I've spend time with, I'll peg the number of pictures with flash to reduce that 200 down to 50 to about 100. It will vary since you can decrease battery life by zooming, using the LCD, etc.

I know it depends on the strength of the flash, but for a compact camera with about 8 ft range of flash, can anyone give me an idea of how much battery energy a flash takes compared to taking a picture? If a camera is rated for 200 pictures, half with flash, how many should it take without flash?
