Flash Problems

Oct 10, 2006 4:10AM PDT

I had problems getting flash to work on most, but not all, web sites. Simple stuff displayed but complex stuff didn't. I get a screen telling me to download Flash player. Using IE 6, I could not get it to work on the BBC magazine web site and here on CNET. I went to the Macromedia web site and followed their instructions. Nothing helped. So, I following their advice to reload my browser, first I used the Flash removal tool one last time and rebooted. I then downloaded and installed IE 7 (version 7.0.5700.6). I went to the Macromedia web site and installed the lateset version of the Flash player. The rotating sign tells me that it has been installed. I have version 9,0,16,0.

But I still have the same problem. On some sites, flash works, but on The BBC Magazine web site and CNET, I get the message that I have to install the latest version of Flash.

I have a pentium 4 with 1G of ram, Windows Xp Home, and oodles of disc space.

Does anyone have an idea about just what is going wrong?

Hello Tufenuf! Thanks for taking the time to help me. Unfortunately, the instructions didn't work. I've got a real puzzler here!

Here's what I did.

I downloaded the "uninstall_flash_player" uninstaller (version 3.0.0.20) and placed it on my desktop. I rebooted in SAFE MODE and then ran the uninstaller, twice! Each time it told me that I had sucessfully uninstalled Flash player. I rebooted and went to Adobe to download/install the latest verison (9,0,16,0). The install went ok, as I got the flash screen and the version number of the program. I then rebooted again.

Here is my test site.
I went to the BBC magazine web site
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/default.stm
and scrolled down to the bottom of the page. On the right side is a heading "COMPLETE QUIZ ARCHIVE" and I click on it to get the drop down menu. I choose the quiz "7 days (5 Oct)" at the top of the list, and the screen with the quiz opens up. Unfortunately, I still get the message that the Flash Plugin is Required!
I am able to access this quiz from my work PC and another PC I have at home. So I know that the site is working.

I hope that this problem doesn't throw you.
