Question

Flash on newly updated Windows 10.

Feb 20, 2016 6:35AM PST

I just received a major update to my Windows 10 on my Toshiba P50-A laptop. It tells me I now have Version 1511 OS build 10586.29 of Windows 10. The update was kind enough to shut down my anti virus software, reactivate Defender, make Malwarebytes anti-exploit inoperable, mess with my 5ghz network connection and take away the sound from my Flash videos. How do I get my 5Ghz back (it doesn't appear in settings anymore). I am using a TP-Link USB to get the 5Ghz. It used to show up in settings under wi-fi 2 but now doesn't. I am now using the 2.4 gHz that came with the PC. And the Flash audio? Video is fine, just no audio. I am using a Chrome browser Version 48.0.2564.116 m (64-bit). Great update! Thank you Microsoft. I wonder what else is waiting for me to discover.

Clarification Request
I have fixed the sound issue
Feb 20, 2016 8:03AM PST

Apparently the Windows update changed my default speakers to something that doesn't work. I changed them back and I have audio. My 5GHz issue comes and goes. I can't seem to make it stay on 5GHz. 5 Ghz disappears from Wi-Fi 2 and the system defaults back to 2.4 GHz. I tried moving the TP-Link USB connection from the laptop to a Dynadock USB system I have connected and that made the 5 Ghz reappear on the list of available networks. I connected to it and then moments later it disappeared again and I'm back on 2.4 Ghz. I would like to get the Malwarebytes back also but that's not top priority now.

Here, We're Uninstalling, then Reinstalling Such Programs
Feb 20, 2016 9:58AM PST

Malwarebytes is easy to uninstall, then reinstall. Disable Defender before reinstalling Malwarebytes. I'd try the same procedure on your TP-link software. It should allow it to be recognized correctly.. No guarantees though.

I know it's not the greatest of solutions, but it seems to be the most workable fix for us.

Hope this helps.

one reinstall worked, one didn't

The uninstall and reinstall of my TP-Link worked great. Unfortunately the same can't be said for Malwarebytes. I had Windows Defender disabled during the reinstall. I get a message after rebooting that the Malwarebytes has not started therefore the process is terminated. Malwarebytes installs as a startup routine. I guess I'll have to live without the Malware stuff. Thanks.

Free or Paid Version Of Malwarebytes?
Feb 21, 2016 9:02AM PST

If it's the free version of Malwarebytes, there's really no problem as you should be able to run the program manually for scanning from the Start Menu.. If it's the full, paid version of Malwarebytes., have you tried opening Services, then the "MBAM Service", then make sure it's set to "Automatic". If it's not, then do so.. If it's not already "Started" in the "Startup Status", try to make it happen. And then on the "Recovery" tab, change the "First Failure" option to "Restart the Service", then Apply, then OK.

Hope this helps.

Free version
Feb 21, 2016 9:39AM PST

I am using the free version of Malwarebytes. I can start it manually from the start menu as you suggest, but a few minutes later I get the following message; "Malwarebytes anti-exploit protection is not started. The anti-exploit process will be terminated." This is the same message I got just after the latest update for Windows 10. Apparently there is something missing that needs to be running. I've no idea what as I downloaded what was at the Malwarebytes website.

Anti-Exploit Is Separate From Main Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
Feb 22, 2016 9:43AM PST

There have been a number of problems with the separate Anti-Exploit software on Win 8.1 and 10.. I've found it unnecessary and it frequently blocks legitimate programs from functioning and the freeware version has issues with adding extra programs.

I use the standard Malwarebytes Anti-malware program but not their additional Anti-Exploit software. You might consider uninstalling it unless you really value the little protection it provides.

Hope this helps.
