General discussion

flash mp3 with relatively high capacity

Mar 7, 2008 11:34PM PST

Hey guys, that's my first post here.

About a month ago my current mp3 player stopped being enough for me. I'm using a sony nw e407 and everything about it is absolutely great - apart from the fact, that 1gb of capacity is not enough anymore.

I'm no audiophile and cannot tell a mp3@128kbps from mp3@320kbps and ATRAC3+ compression in sonic stage worked really great for me. It's not suited for every song of course, for example I had to use a higher bitrate for Arch Enemy, but 48-64kbps was enough for about 3/4 of my music library.

Now, what I'm looking for is something similar to my current player. I'm in fact quite loyal to sony and was really pleased with both players I bought from them but I'm wondering if there is something even better.

So, what is important?
- relatively high capacity (4 Gigs will be sufficient, I think, assuming that I'm using atrac3 or a comparable format)
- long battery life (my current player can play for 40-45 hours without stop)
- small size (that's why it should be a flash one, not anything with a hard drive).

So, is there anything out there that would fit my needs? Thanks in advance.

while wandering around on the internet I actually ended up thinking about this very player you mentioned. It's kind of expensive, compared to my unit (which I could buy for an equivalent of 70$ in my area now, while I7 4GB costs around 290). That's about even more than psp which costs around 250, not even mentioning the price diffrence between psp and 16gb ver (400$).

Still, I'm kind of interested in this unit. I guess I'll begin to eye it's price changes and probably buy it after psp.
