Question

Flash is crashing Firefox

Aug 6, 2012 2:10AM PDT

Installed Adobe Flash (Plugin 11_3_300_270). Works fine with Opera and Chrome but with Firefox 14 (Windows 7) it causes an application error: "The exception unknown software exception (0x0eedfade) occured in the application at location 0x74cad36f".

When Flash is uninstalled, Firefox is OK except for "missing app" message. Flash continues to work in other browsers until they are closed and reopened.

I've cleared the registry and reinstalled several times to no avail. Adobe has not replied to help requests.
I thoroughly appreciate your time and expertise in helping me with this problem.
Thanks in advance,
Bil Donlon

Yup. Did you try that common setting? See google.

The phrase is...

Disable Flash Hardware Acceleration.

Yup?

Would you mind taking a moment to explain further? I searched your phrase but the issues it addresses don't seem to match up with my problem.
In any event, thanks for taking the time to answer.

I fear you may not like trying the setting?

It takes less than a minute and it's a common issue/cause of the crash.

It's well discussed so what else could I add? I think I've encountered folk that want detailed dissection of the issue but for now let's go with simple. Until recently, Flash did not use hardware acceleration. And when it was set to on by default you see a lot of crashes. This is a common fix and like I wrote, there will be a few folk that want to know more about it. As it has so many discussions I can't see a reason for another one.

Try it. since you can undo it in a flash.
