Flash drive based players with decent battery life/30GB+?

Aug 17, 2008 5:07AM PDT

I got a Sony A818 a year ago, but i've found that 8GB is simply not enough space. I like to take a few videos to take on the go as well as my music, and i've only got about half my music collection on my device as a result of this, and so i'm looking for a new player. Here is my 'wishlist' so to speak:

-Long battery life (i.e. 20hrs+ for music)
-Plays videos
-Flash drive, not hard drive
-At least 16GB
-Drag and drop (or very easy music transfer with no forced file formats)
-Not humongous

Are there any players that meet most (or even all) these specifications?

Zen X-Fi

Maybe the Creative Zen X-Fi

-Long battery life:
Its rated for 36 hours (audio)

-Plays videos:
Yes, it does.

-Flash memory:
Yes.

-At least 16GB:
8, 16, or 32GB

-Drag and drop:
Some videos need to be converted, but overall not too hard.

-Not humongous:
It isn't.

Seems like it meets your requirements. Happy

Creative Zen X-Fi - possibly a good match for me, too?
Aug 22, 2008 5:19PM PDT

I've got a 40GB Creative Zen Xtra Nomad Jukebox (I think that's what it's called) which I've had since '06. It plays fine, but I've been having trouble getting it to work with my new computer which runs the Vista, not XP. I've received online advice on what to do to get it to work with the Vista, but it's all Greek to me - when it comes to technical matters like this, even baby steps are too advanced - so I'm thinking of just giving up and getting a new player that does work with the Vista (and hopefully with XP as well).

These Zen X-Fi machines you're suggesting for Mike45450 seem like a good match for me as well - capacity is close enough to what I've already got, and unlike my Zen Xtra, these are flash players, presumably less susceptible to damage than hard drive players.

Are there any other players I might want to consider? I don't download, I only copy from pre-recorded audio CDs, so access (or lack of same) to Itunes and similar services is not a factor.

iPod touch has 32gb flash drive, can play videos, store photos, browse web etc...

About 36 hours of battery life (audio) and 6 hours battery life (video).

Hope this helps Happy
