XP should recognize it.

W98 will get confused, it needs drivers.

Since you didn't give us any information, this is all I can offer.

Plug it in and see what happens. If it works it'll show up in Explorer as another drive. Treat it as such.

Removable storage
Mar 24, 2006 12:08AM PST

Simply put the "flash drive" is a removable storage device. Treat it like any other HD or floppy, being 128mb of storage. Be sure depending on OS to install the driver if so needed and DON"T forget to do a proper "dismount/eject" when removing it.

FYI - Since this is the season of common static problems, make sure you "discharge yourself" as the USB port getting a ESD/static jolt isn't good at all.

Dismount / Eject

I never knew that doing Dismount / Eject was mandatory in Flash Drives.

Why is it so ?

Isn't it that USB devices are Plug n Play and so we dont need to do any thing such.

Wonder why the system has a remove feature?
Apr 17, 2006 3:07AM PDT

A flash drive isn't a simple USB device as its removable storage, it maybe trying to map itself or any other task, though alot is done quickly. Like any storage device it should be mounted/unmounted, but since any USB drive is "removable" its a precautionary move to follow the proper steps. Yeah, you can pull/push away to remove/install but sooner or later it become corrupted. It just gives the system whatever it needs to do the time to do it. If you haven't noticed alot of users post questions on USB devices not working or simply "disappear or aren't recongized". Go figure....
