Flashdrive freezes computer

I have the same problem since I did a System Recovery on my Compaq Presario SR1403WM. I have 3 different flash drives which work perfectly on other computers and had worked perfectly on my Compaq until I did the system recovery. No it doesn't matter which USB port I use, the flash drive freezes the screen. All the other peripherals plugged into USB ports work fine. How can I fix this problem?

Try compaq.com

Look up your model and install the system drivers and hope that fixes it.

I tried reloading and updating the drivers first and it hasn't worked. Do you have any other ideas?

Sadly none.

You could boot a LIVE CD called UBUNTU (see google) as a test of the hardware to see if it works in the non-installed UBUNTU running from CD.

But if a fresh use of the restore media doesn't fix it, you may be looking at dead ports or dead drives.
