Flash and Shockwave. . .

by Coryphaeus / February 9, 2007 9:11 PM PST

Running XP Home SP-2, all updates.

Some sites require one or the other to work. I go to Adobe and install the latest of each, and they both give the little animation that says they're installed. But they're not. In IE, Tools, Manage Add-ons, Shockwave Flash Object is listed as active, but nothing works.

Specifically this site

My mirror machine and two laptops running XP Pro work. I do have the latest Java installed. Oh yes, I close then open IE. And it works perfectly in FF 2.x.

"The Speakeasy Speed Test requires the latest version of Macromedia Flash Player installed to use with your preferred browser.
Also, temporarily disable any Adblock extensions on your browser."

That's what I'm trying to do. I download, from the link, the latest version. It says it installs, gives me the little animated picture telling me it's complete, but when I try the site again it fails. Opening and closing IE is no help. Looking in Tools, Manage add-ons, neither Flash or Shockwave are listed. But as I stated above, the install says it's successful. But it's not.

In the download center, you check You can verify the version you have installed by visiting the About Flash page

In case you have trouble getting to certain places in this site,I copied this.
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Choose Tools then Internet Options.
3. Select the Security tab.
4. Choose Internet.
5. Ensure that the "Download Signed ActiveX controls" and "Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins" options are enabled.

In this link Troubleshooting Test Flash Player

Also if you have the funky IE 7,as you know there are many issues.I tried the web site and had no problems.IE could be your problem.

I found one more LINK

You have to install

Flash and Shockwave for each browser.

The version that works in Mozilla Firefox will NOT work for Internet Explorer, you'll have to open Internet Explorer and download and install both.

I've always gotten everything to work. Everything works on my other three machines.

But I got it to work. Uninstalled and reinstalled. Now ok.
