Question

Fix PC Game Lag?

Jul 21, 2016 10:01PM PDT

Hey folks! Looking for some Insight on a problem I can't seem to resolve. My brother has been working great for a long time but suddenly overnight, it lags hard when he tries to play any game he loads. Below are the specs

Graphics: amd radeon r9 200 series
CPU: intel core i5 4460
Motherboard: b85m-gaming 3
RAM: 8GB

We know its not the heat. I've checked repeatedly with HW Monitor and MSI Afterburner. Everything seems to be well within temp regs.

I went in and turned off his onboard graphics and that seemed to help a little bit, but there is still pretty nasty Lag. I can't figure it out. His CPU isn't maxed, or his memory, or his graphics card. I'm at a loss. We also ran a full Virus scan with no results.

Suggestions?

Thanks!

Grab a copy of malwarebytes.
Grab a copy of adwcleaner.
Get them both from bleepingcomputer.com

Run them both and eject anything they find.

Test your gaming with the side panel off.

Hey thanks for the quick response. We ran all of the programs and took the side of the case off. Malwarebytes found like 13 PUPs and we removed them and he says after following these steps it has improved slightly. But we are still seeing the lag.

The 200 series is just that.

I can't tell which you have but the next big move is to change up the GPU.

There are changes in games that can cause a sudden drop but lag, as in gaming on the internet has so many moving parts that I can only guess you reduced settings and know better than to game on WiFi.
