Question

Fix "Application blocked from accessing Graphics Hardware."

Mar 14, 2018 2:29PM PDT

When I am playing Minecraft, I get the error "Application Java(TM) Platform SE 8 has been blocked from accessing Graphics Hardware" usually within 20 to 40 minutes of playing on servers.
Sometimes, the Minecraft screen will turn bluish-gray (this is a different error from the one above), but this is not as big of a problem.

PC Specs:
CPU - AMD FX-8350
GPU - ADM Radeon RX550 4G
Motherboard - Gigabyte 970A
PSU - Coolermaster 500W
Monitor - Dell Monitor S2716DG
OS - Windows 10 Home

So far, I have tried:
- Running Minecraft in compatibility mode for windows 7
- Changing the regedit (Setting TdrDelay to 8, setting TdrLevel to 0)
- Disabling Windows Defender in regedit (DisableAntiSpyware = 0)
- Running Minecraft from its original file location and running it as an administrator
- Used DDU to uninstall the graphics driver, and then reinstalling the driver manually (Windows Automatic Update turned off)
- Reinstalled Windows 10
- Checked GPU temps to be around 30 C.

Interestingly, whenever I reinstall the graphics driver, Minecraft doesn't crash for a couple of hours, but then after that it will start crashing again.

Can someone give me other methods to try?

There are now thousands of posts on this issue.

1. "AMD's "Chill" feature, which aims to reduce GPU use when a game is idle, would cause this error"
2. Try other driver versions.
3. Card or PC is getting hot. Leave cover off, clean, replace heatsink and old slow fans.

There are way too many discussions on this so I summarized the items I think help short of changing to another card.

1. I have just checked, the "Chill" feature is off.
2. I have tried multiple drivers.
3. GPU is around 35 C. How would I check the PC temperature?

For CPU temp

There are hundreds of ways. So I won't list them all. I have been using Speccy a lot for this.
