Resolved Question

First time building (upgrading) a Computer

Jan 6, 2012 2:31PM PST

I'm trying to upgrade my parent's computer and keep their costs low. The main thing my parents want to do is watch videos on the computer. I want the computer to be able to play high quality movies (mp4 and mkv) smoothly.

Anyways, we stopped at our local PC shop today, and I explained the above to the guy. Here is what he recommended:

Foxconn motherboard A74ml-k 3.0 --$55
AMD AM3 x2 260 CPU Dual-Core 3,2 GHZ --$85
Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT --$80
Crucial 2GB DDR3 Ballistix PC3 --$17
SATA ATX Power Supply 550W --$30

This comes to about $267, is this fair priced? Or can I get better parts for the money.

Be prepared to reactivate Windows. You'll need the original OS CD.
