General discussion

First 'Primary Hard Disk Failure' then more probs

Nov 16, 2004 2:43PM PST

Ok. Lets start from the beginning, everything was working fine, until I restarted my computer.

It restarted, acting as normal, keep in mind that i left a zip disk in the drive( D: ) and so it starts up and the section where I believe it said 'Detecting IDE Drives..'was looking as normal, although it took a little long to detect everything, my drives work, and everything like that, but this happened before i believe once but somehow i got thru it but this time it said 'Primary Hard Disk Failure' ,

so i thought i should re-install Windows XP, nothing too important was on the computer anyways, so i do that and everything goes as normal and so i go thru the partitioning thing and everything like that, everything goes wrong really at the point where it needs to restart, why? i dont know, but thats when it repeats itselft with the Primary Hard Disk Failure thing

it crossed my mind that it might be because of the Zip Disk still being in the drive, because floppies usually mess up reboots, but i try to take it out and theres no response, the CD drives work, however

And what happens if you put another hard disk in?

Beware that ZIP drive during XP install. Many don't like how XP will select another drive letter that C.

Fix? Unplug the ZIP during install.

There was really no problem with the Zip drive, it read things normally but I appreciate the help, but how do i unplug it? would that solve my problem? and how to re-plug it? if thats the case

You may need a service shop.

Unpluging drives and reconnecting them is newbie territory. No offense, but you may want to seek a service shop if you can't remove and replace that Zip drive.
