High School Musical?
Mar 14, 2006 3:19AM PST

That's interesting...I would have loved to be part of the meeting that decided which movie to start with.

"How about a classic movie?"
"No, too difficult to secure rights."
"How about a popular new movie?"
"Yikes - and have that affect our DVD sales?"
"Umm...how about...you're really limiting our options here. How about a...cult favorite? Something that we haven't necessarily released from the Disney vault?"
"Next!"
"Kid movie?"
"Honestly - kids with video iPods?"
"Okay, what's left?"

After excruciating moments of brow furrowing, the smell of burning wood, and seat creaking:
"We did spend a lot of money advertising `High School Musical'..."
"Brilliant! Remind me to make you a VP of something."

It's popular though...

The soundtrack for High School Musical was the number one album a couple of weeks ago, and currently sits at number 10 for the whole store. Since Steve is now on the board at Disney, what else would you expect?

Sort of

It's not really a movie, per se. It's a made-for-tv movie. So, it's kinda in between a tv show and an actual movie; but at least it's a step in the right direction.

$9.99!!! way to much for a Disney made for tv movie
Mar 14, 2006 12:21PM PST

Ya $9.99 is way too much for a made for tv movie, why not go to your local walmart (which are everywhere meaning the end of world is close) and buy on of there horrible movies (that is dvd) for $4.95. With a Disney made for tv movie the price should be about $0.99. I guess i will wait untill they get some classics like Full Metal Jacket (that'll be the day), or The Godfather trilogy.

Godfather?
Mar 14, 2006 12:57PM PST

Well, first of all, if they won't release a widescreen version of Full Metal Jacket on DVD, then I seriously doubt...

And would you want to watch a downloaded version of Godfather? Maybe I haven't heard any details, but would the downloaded format of a movie be intended for a video iPod, or DVD quality and dimension, ready for burning? I own a PSP and have a few UMD movies (that I received as gifts - I usually copy one of my DVDs to my memory stick), and I have to say...it's a little hard to hang in there for a whole movie.

I don't know that I'll ever see a classic movie on a screen that size. A TV show, yes - I can see that.

I do wish iTunes would open up to other players, like the PSP....

Oh ya def.

I have converted many videos, including full length movies on to my ipod. I use a program called PSP Video 9 and the quality is actually quite excellent on the little tiny ipod screen, its only when I transfer the movie from my ipod onto a tv screen that the image loses its clarity. But its still enough to get by. Its great on long car rides to just have that small video playing my favorite movies, and plus when im inbetween college classes or sitting at the library I like to have Wedding Crashers playing on my ipod just to catch a quick glance every now and again at the funny scenes. I wouldn't recommand holding your ipod/psp for the entire movie but if you're stuck in a car for more then 2 hours then your options get quite limited.

Very interesting

Actually, you make a good point. I'm going to try to take the bus to work two days a week (so I don't have to suffer through traffic), and that seems like a perfect opportunity to catch up on movies, especially with commentaries. It doesn't make a lot of sense elsewhere in my house or while I'm on the go, but where I have no choice but to wait, it does sound like the perfect escape.

Godfather
Mar 16, 2006 7:59AM PST

Hey guys <insert obligatory great podcast drivel here>,

Just a quickie to say that I just bought the full Godfather on DVD (full widescreen jobie) for $9.95 Australian. Which works out to be around $7.30 US.

So am I going to buy for a movie over iTunes which is more expensive than a DVD. I don't think so.

Also, I believe most music tracks in the US store are about $0.99 whereas in Oz, they are around $1.60 - $1.70. And they still haven't told us why we have to pay more down here. So I still buy CD's.

Also (again), I then listen to those CD's on my phone (a Sony Ericsson w880i), with great sound and a great camera with 2Gb space. We also SMS/TXT like mad down here.

Chech,

tergus
