Successfully downloaded the latest firmware for the 2550 by NOT being logged on. Go figure.
Evidently I already had version 090104.01.XAA, but I reloaded anyway
from the thumbdrive.
Nexflix access still broke. Pandora still works OK. Any ideas ????
I just the Samsung web site and the only available firmware for this unit is version 2.1.
It may be that I jumped the gun on the announcement. But it's there now.
If you need a link to it, let me know.

This version does not works for europe.
Coudl you please let me know when we can expect the european version ?

St
The best thing to do is contact the customer support center in Europe. I'm hoping to expand my reach worldwide eventually - one of my personal goals here - but at this time, I can only directly support Samsung products in North America - particularly the U.S.
The European support center can be reached at 0845-SAMSUNG (UK) or by going to www.samsung.com and changing your geographical location, and clicking on "Service". They will have the most up-to-date information regarding firmware updaets for that region.

If you have better information, I take it !
I had a Samsung BluRay player - BD-P2500 for 10 months before it started skipping, and then would not play BluRay at all, although DVDs played fine. I had all the latest firmware updates (2.1 at the time). I eventually sent it in, although I think the $85 charge is NOT reasonable. The repair is not complete yet, but the diagnosis reads ??wrong region code?. How many other people are having this as a diagnosis? I did nothing to the player except download recommended firmware, and had no apparent problems with downloads or installs. Seems a bit wrong to charge for correcting a software bug, which is a design defect, not a customer problem.
In that both 2.3 & 2.4 versions broke Netflix but 2.2 worked great anybody got a copy of it?
I flashed back to 2.1 which I had on CD, although Samsung techs claim you can't go back, they are wrong.
MR. HD Tech any chance you might be able to find a 2.2 for 2550 to help us limp along?
Be glad to take a ruf via email (dan @ Done-that.com )
I've tried backward updates on 1.x versions with absolutely no success myself and had to requisition a bunch of units to service in the "early days" (BD-P1000) of Blu-Ray. This is actually really good to know because I wasn't aware of this.. uh... feature being available. I'll do some testing this week before I say something in the forums and become responsible for 100 or so of your units instanteously going in for repairs. ![]()
Yes, give me a few days and I'll see what I can find. IF I post them, of course, you realize that if it doesn't work, you agree to willingly and cheerfully make a service call and send in your unit for repairs without holding me responsible or name-calling pointed in my direction, right? (And yeah, I'm serious about that!)

could you please contact Samsung Uk or some one else to get information about the European new firmware release ?
I'm limited to what I can do here.
I'm working on getting a European (and Canadian, for that matter) contact, however progress in getting this is still slow.
Please be patient with me, as I'm working with literally a global audience. It's a goal I've outlined, rest assured.

Thank you, I had no previous exsperence with the unit other than flashing it to the 2.1 after I go it, so I just assumed one could reload to any level and it worked for me. I do have the BP-2550 so I can not tell you it works on 2500.
I do understand that if 2.2 can be found and I screw up my box, that it is total my fault!
Funny, I have been doing software systems for over 40 years (yes I still do it today). And I have never seen a bug free system.
Thank you I will await your research.

I have NO AUDIO coming out of my Blu Ray player, I tried two different HDMI cables, both of which work with my Xbox and I also tried the component video cables I have. I have a perfect picture and no sound, it does not matter what I do, Blue Ray, DVD, CD or NetFLIX streaming I have NO sound!
God this ticks me off, a new player, just a month old and it screws up!
So I have the following version of the firmware on my player 090104_100908B0_1254.08_XAA. How the heck do I tell if it is version 2.1, 2.2 or higher?
I can't download anything newer as the system says I am up to date if I try an update with the ethernet port connect to my network (and thence to the internet). If I download the latest version to my USB drive and try it, the system does not recognize the drive and looks at the net anyway. If I disconnect the net then the update software complains that the ethernet cable is disconnected and won't look for the USB drive. Anyway I thin 2.4 is the version I have since the download I am looking at has the same date.
V2.1 is dated 081710 10/17/08
V2.2 unknow but I think it was 12/1/08
V2.3 is 12/30/08 - It was realy bad
V2.4 is 1/4/09 (5 days after 2.3 so must have been a shocker that 2.3 screwed up so bad)
I have copies of 2.1, 2.3 and 2.4 I might share, contact me via email

Are you able to determine which sound setting and output your player is sending? (HDMI or Optical, and bitstream?)
--HDTech
I did a controlled test yesterday of the V2.4 and V2.1 firmware on BP2550 here are the results:
Configuration:
BP-2550 HDMI & Optical to Receiver
Receiver OKI 605 ? Switches Video & provides Sound as 7.1 (but driving 5.1 speaker setup)
Philips 42? LCD via HDMI (Video only)
Tests:
Netflix ?Letters from Iwo Jima? high quality Signal HD
V2.4 No flashing or video problems, Audio appears correct
V2.1 No flashing or video problems, Audio appears correct
Netflix ?30 Rock Season 1? episodes 9,10,11 high quality Signal HD
V2.4 No flashing or video problems, Audio clearly off ranges up to 2 seconds off
V2.1 No flashing or video problems, Audio ok
Blue Ray disk ?Blue Planet?
V2.4 Ran fine for part 1, part 2 Flashed and had full black screen resync problems. Stopping and ejecting disk, power off/on cleared most problems
V2.1 no problems
Conclusion:
V2.4 is not bad but clearly has problems with Netflix Audio stream decode and sync.
BRD play video looks to suffer from Memory leak or garbage collection problems if Java, or Heap management if C++.
V2.1 is stable but lacks Netflix HD while V2.4 is not although it does have its high spots. I suspect I will live with V2.4 until I can find a V2.2 or it becomes irksome and I will go back to V2.1.
Hello
Did you get any news for the European version of 2.4 firmware ??
We are desperated to get it ??
Regards
St
karistep,
I wish I had some good news on that, but I don't get any updates for the European versions or their release dates.
There is a tech support line there, but I don't know if they have that information either.
--HDTech
I realy wanted to try and stay at 2.4, but even BR disks blow the 2.4 release so I gave up and went back to the 2.1 release.
I have now got a copy of each release from 2.1 forward and would be glad to share them with someone who wants to test them all and make a QC report. contact me off line at dan at done-that.com
