Question

Firmware 1114 breaks app on H5203 & H6201

Feb 25, 2015 3:09AM PST

There is a popular app called MediaBrowser (similar to Plex) which runs on Samsung TVs. It is normally installed via the Developer profile and it has been working well. However several users are reporting that after upgrading to firmware 1114, they can no longer load the application.

It looks like something changed between 1112 and 1114 which stopped the app from being able to load. The users in question have tried running the app from USB and it doesn't appear at all. So it looks like the TV just doesn't recognise the app structure anymore. Other TVs on different firmware are continuing to work fine.

Has anybody else experienced similar issues, or have any ideas on how to work out what is wrong?

So this is some sort of hack?

Not a hack

No, this isn't any sort of hack. It's a legitimate application developed using the normal Samsung TV SDK (see http://www.samsungdforum.com/Devtools/SdkDownload).

As it is currently under quite rapid development, it is currently being used via the developer account on the TV (http://www.samsungdforum.com/guide/d20/index.html).

The problem with the TV recognising the app seems limited to the 1114 firmware which was released on 2nd Feb. Other users with different models (and hence different firmware) have updated to their respective latest versions and are still happily working away. The 1112 version of the firmware was working fine. So there are quite a few people scratching their heads trying to work out what has happened.

So any thoughts gratefully received!

Ahh, then get back to the Samsung Developer page.
