Firewire question

Mar 14, 2006 9:40PM PST

I have a new Sony MiniDV camcorder which has USB and firewire capability. According to Sony, firewire is only supported when using a Vaio PC with Sony software. Will the firewire work with other software such as WinDVD? I was planning to order a cable, which is apaprently only available through Sony, but if there is no support, it would be a waste.

It was a standard firewire cable. Terrific use of FUD to steer you to Sony label solutions, but why not plug it in and try WINDV?

Bob

PS. I paid 4.99 for my cable, the Sony was 69.99.

This doesn't bother me so much because they are available from other makers such as Sandisk. It does irk me slightly that no one seems to market Firewire as a relacement for the Sony cable. Maybe they assume we already know this.

I have a Sony HC 32 mini DV camcorder and ordered a 4-6 pin firewire cable online here for less than $7 and had good results here:

$2.95 shipping is cheaper than hitting the pavement looking for a deal. It's on the way.
