Firewall trouble

Hi Folks:

My Norton Firewall and Anti-Virus utilities are giving my Dell computer, Windows XP, on dial-up a lot of problems regarding internet access. First, the firewall is blocking it, saying the page is unavailable. So I disable the firewall. Then the firewall or some other part of my system is blocking a pop-up window when I attempt a real player, windows media, quick player installation. Thousands of you have probably solved this problem hundreds of times before, so now I'm asking for your help.
