General discussion

Firewall suggestions please.

Jan 4, 2011 12:26PM PST

I'm just looking for a firewall that can block IPs from joining my gaming server and nothing more.

I've gone through ZoneAlarm Pro, but that doesn't seem to be working for me for some odd reason and I don't want to go through a million firewalls until I find one, so I thought I'd ask here and get peoples experiences on what they've used or are using that can do what I want, instead of a bunch of installing and uninstalling. Happy

It doesn't matter if it's freeaware or not. As long as it can do what I want it to do. Happy

I'm sorry, but I don't understand this. I've read it three times and I'll read it another three times later.

Is this talking about blocking people by using the router?

I'm not looking for a hardware firewall. Just a simple software one.

It is simple.

Let's examine how to block an IP range. Here's the command.

iptables -I FORWARD -s 64.79.147.0/24 -j DROP

That's one line you type in and your router is now blocking 64.79.147.0 to .255!

Seems simpler than any other firewall.

but where abouts on my router page do I add such a thing?

I have a NetGear WNDR3300.

I've taken a look at the page, but I don't see where I can add such a thing, then again, I'm not good at this type of stuff at all, seeing how someone setup my router for me.

Should I take some screens of the router page for you to see?

Sorry

But I'm leaving for a few weeks and my replies will drop off and be very delayed.

If you can in the future, post all the details up front such as you won't replace the router or at least mention the router so others can see if that can be part of the solution.
