Tools > Options?

I don't know PC Tools' firewall but it must have options for unblocking specified software.

For example, in ZoneAlarm, (another type of firewall), I double click on the icon in the System Tray near the clock to open ZoneAlarm's program window and on the left is a list of options. When I click "Program Control" I can see the list of programs that ZA monitors, and here I can adjust whether any program should have internet access or not.

That probably won't be the same for the PC Tools program, but you get the idea?

Hi Mark
I foumd a similer list in my firewall mark called applications all items in the list were ticked green meaning allow except for one marked (windows command processor) which was blocked red so I have changed that to allow and everything is now working fine. But do you think it will be ok to leave windows command processor on allow or is that not advisable. thanks again for your help.

I believe that the "windows command processor" is the Windows Command Prompt (CMD), window, usually accessed from Start > All programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. If it works for you to allow Java then that should be ok.

The Command Prompt is a DOS emulator, DOS being the forerunner of Windows, and is useful sometimes, although it surprises me that Java needs it. In my own ZoneAlarm I have set ZA to ask for permission if ever the CMD needs access to the internet. I wonder if your PC Tools Firewall has similar choices, eg Grant Full Access, or Ask before allowing. You may need to either click the entry for Windows Command Processor or right click the entry for further choices.

At least you found the problem though, and that's good.
