firewall

Dec 5, 2003 12:30AM PST

Using Zone Alarm with win XP Home.

START/MSCONFIG/SERVICES has....
Internet Connection Firewall (ICF)
and Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) checked.

Seems like I read in past not to have XP firewall installed if using ZONE ALARM.

So my question is... Do I need, or does it make any difference if the ICF and ICS is checked???

Thanks

Ben

Ben, I have read the same as you but I have to tell you that I have them both running and have noted no adverse effects. So to me it makes no difference.

My opinion is ZoneAlarm is the better firewall since it blocks both the incoming and outgoing intrusions. ICF only blocks incoming. I like the added security of blocking both ways. My reason for running both is that occasionally I use Windows Messenger Voice Chat that does not work properly with ZA... or at least I have not found a setting to make it work.

Good luck!

Glenn

Thanks Glenn.

Was curious if having both firewall's would cause any conflict.

I live in small town and our cable company just got cable internet going. The tech that installed my cable modem was really impressed with Zone Alarm's abilities.

He was using McAfee firewall and he just phoned me that he had just downloaded ZA and was installing on his personal computer.

Thanks again.
