Firelite Nightmate

Aug 25, 2006 1:14PM PDT

I am having difficulty accessing my SmartDisk Firelite USB hard drive. I set up a shortcut on my desktop. However, each time I clik the shortcut I receive the following message: "The drive or network connection that the short 'Shortcut to FIRELITE (F).lnk' refers to is unavailable. Make sure that the disk is properly inserted or the network resource is available, and then try again."

I have done extensive troubleshooting in order to rectify the problem. The blue indicator light flahes repeatedly on the the hard drive as though it is being read. Unfortunately, I cannot access the actual hard drive. Any insight you can provide in this matter is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Where does the shortcut point to?

Can you 'see' the device under 'My Computer'?

Udayan.

It originally pointed to the main drive under 'My computer.' However, I no longer see the icon under 'My Computer.' Is it possible that the hard drive is bad? Is it possible that the usb connection is not enough power for the drive? The hard drive does have a slot for a secondary power cord. Do you think that'll make a difference? I'm starting to think that its a lost cause.
