Firefox updates

by MarkFlax Forum moderator / February 25, 2005 3:34 AM PST

Am I doing something wrong?

I've just read in a ZDNet Security article, , that Mozllla have just patched Firefox against a possible security flaw.

But when I open Firefox and navigate to Tools > Options > Advanced > Software Updates and click the "Check now" button, Firefox says there are no updates available. I do not have the option set to check for updates periodically.

When I goto and click the Security option at the bottom, and then "List of known vulnerabilities", I see a list of 9 vulnerabilities fixed in Firefox 1.0

The ZDNet article talks about Firefox 1.0.1

So, am I fixed? I am using Firefox 1.0

Or, what am I doing wrong?

I see comments that old version should be uninstalled before installing any new Firefox version.

I only this morning downloaded Firefox 1.0.1 and followed the above procedure. All was easy and went well. Just wanted to warn you about the uninstall first. Wink

Good luck!

In reply to: MarkFlax!

I downloaded F1.0.1, uninstalled F1.0 and installed the new version without any problems.

Much appreciated.

I just downloaded 1.0.1 and installed it w/o uninstalling version 1.0. There were no problems. I thought I'd give it a try since I have my Firefox customized and didn't want to go thru the hassle of making the same changes again.

Maybe I was just lucky but I didn't have anything to lose.

Just my experience.

I also did not uninstall previous version. I have not had any problems at all.

Uninstall instructions were from Firefox...

FWIW one does not loose any Setting, Bookmarks or Extensions when uninstalling. These are retained and picked up by the new version.

Check your Add/Remove Programs list. Some are reporting both the old and new versions are listed when the older version was not uninstalled first. I don't know... just taking Firefox at their word on how too!

Hope this helps.

If both version are listed

use regedit and search for "Mozilla Firefox (1.0)" (without quotes). Remove all references and it disappears from Add/Remove.
