firefox suddenly won't bookmark anymore

today all the bookmarks in my "favorites" disappeared , and I can't go to my sites anymore . And in addition I can't make any NEW bookmarks either. I completely deleted firefox from my computer and then downloaded the latest version (firefox 2) but to no avail ; then I tried System Restore--no effect .Without the ability to make new bookmarks, the browser is useless .
Has anybody here experienced this phenomenon ?

You guys don't have a clue!

In reply to: Try this

No one is asking about backing up bookmarks on Firefox...everyone knows how to do that and where to go to get a program for backing up the bookmarks.

THE PROBLEM IS WHEN ONE WANTS TO BOOKMARK A PAGE THE MENU "ADD BOOKMARK" POPS UPS BUT WHEN ONE HIT'S THE "OK" IT NEVER TAKES, ONE CAN PUNCH "OK" A HUNDRED TIMES AND NOTHING HAPPENS THE BOOKMARK IS NOT ACCEPTED OR RECORDED...IT WON'T ACCEPT NEW BOOKMARKS.

I regularly export my Firefox bookmarks to a file on my HDD and occasionally to a cd. That way, even if they do foul up I still have my stuff. Good luck.

Have you tried this fix

Add Bookmark dialog doesn't work (Firefox)
[edit]
Corrupt localstore.rdf file

A corrupt localstore.rdf file in your profile folder can cause this problem. Either of the solutions below will fix it, but you will lose any toolbar customizations you might have made [2].

Firefox 1.5 or later: Exit Firefox completely and start it in Safe Mode. A window called Firefox Safe Mode with some troubleshooting options will appear. Select the option "Reset toolbars and controls" and choose "Make Changes and Restart".

All Firefox versions: Exit Firefox completely and then open the profile folder and delete the file "localstore.rdf". Make sure to delete the "localstore.rdf" file in the profile folder and not the program files copy (in Windows, the profile folder may be hidden).

Extension issue

The Bookmark Duplicate Detector extension has been reported to result in failure of the Add Bookmark dialog in Firefox. If updating the extension doesn't help you should uninstall it.

Thanks a lot !. It worked like a charm . And it was very easy to do; I
had never thought about the "Safe Mode" function before .
I haven't checked to see if I lost any data , but it doesn't matter so much . At least I can bookmark sites again ,so I can regain my data on my own and start working again .
