Firefox problems

Dec 22, 2005 9:32PM PST

I finally downloaded Firefox to use instead of Internet Explorer when your last information about a flaw in IE came out. I am now having problems when I click on hypertexts or closing ages on certain sites. The browser acts like I didn't click, or it highlights what I clicked on and doesn't move forward. I usually solve the problem by repeatedly clicking, but sometimes the computer freezes. I still run Windows 98 SE. Any suggestions?

Don't know what you mean by extensions

Can you explain a little about what extensions are and how I change them in Firefox?

Extensions...
Dec 23, 2005 1:46AM PST

Extensions is the Firefox/Mozilla name for plugins...third-party code that is integrated with your browser to give it added functionality and/or security. Since you were unaware of this ability it's probably not the cause of the issue, but you can check if you have any extensions installed by going tools->extensions while in Firefox. Any extensions you may have installed will be listed in the new window.

Hope this helps,
John

are the pages loading when you click?
Dec 22, 2005 10:40PM PST

I'm sure others here know more then I, but I just wondered if the pages are still loading when you click a link and it doesn't move forward. Firefox has that little circle that goes around in the upper right-hand corner when pages load. (I realize you probably already know that.)
Anyway, that happens to me as well with Ffx 1.5 --- I sometimes click a link and it seems to perpetually load. I just hit the Stop button, click the link again and it goes thru. ---Not stopping a page from loading before reclicking a link can crash the browser!!

And I've noticed that Ffx doesn't usually shut down using ''End Program'' when it crashes, Windows(xp) crashes on me as well. (just learned to live with that!) Sad

Actually, one more note; I think the problem has been happening less since I got the NoScript extension. The problem may have something to do with how Ffx deals with javascript. (NoScript is good to have, regardless.) Hopefully someone else may be able to explain that. (I'd like to know, too!) Grin

hope I helped a little!

When I click, the circle does not move in firefox. Also, How did you get the No Script extension?

Which sites?
Dec 23, 2005 1:54AM PST

Since there is a possibility that these sites are being blocked by Firefox or your security software (either as advertsiments, popups, etc), could you list which ones are giving you problems? You can either give us the main website and describe which links on the page are giving you trouble or right-click the link, select "copy link location", then paste (right-click the desired location in your message and select paste) that into your reply. Also, what, if any, security applications do you use?

As far as NoScript goes, you can download it by clicking here, although I'd like to note that it can be annoying at first, blocking safe/desired scripts and presenting repeated notifications until you customize it. If you decide you no longer want it installed, you can remove it by going tools->extensions, selecting it, and clicking "uninstall."

Hope this helps,
John

I take surveys
Dec 23, 2005 4:52AM PST

It is not sites that I am having trouble with, but clicking to change pages. I have had trouble on CNet, Zoom survey sites, online shopping sites like Amazon etc.
Also , I am not following your right and left click instructions. On what am I right and left clicking? Thanks for your help.

I get it, I right click on the link that is not working. I'll try to do that.
