Firefox occasionally hangs

Jul 3, 2005 2:19AM PDT

Anyone else have this problem? And, if so, does anyone have a fix. It's been happening once or twice a week. I can go to task manager, end the .exe file, reload it and it seems fine afterwards.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

How does Firefox hangs and how did you close it before running Firefox again?

It just sits there

The hour glass comes on as if a page is opening.. then it doesn't.

Clicking the "x" top right sometimes closes it, sometimes doesn't, but in either case, I still must go to task manager and end "firefox.exe" process before I can reopen the browser.

It's happened 2 times today (that's a rarity), and does happen regularly though infrequently (2-3 times per week on average).

I've uninstalled and reinstalled it 2 times (maybe 3) but the problem persists. BTW, I checked the Mozilla forum and several people posted there with same problem, but no one posted a reason for it or a solution.

Safemode
Jul 3, 2005 9:27AM PDT

Close firefox.
Open Windows Task Manager and start a new task. Enter

"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -safe-mode

then click ok.

Are you familar with about:config on Firefox?

No I am not

I do have a safe-mode option on my start menu under "Mozilla" so it is easy enough to open in safe mode. Is there some sort of diagnostic I can do once there?

Thx for your help BTW.

Safemode is there in just in case if an extensions or themes don't work with Firefox property like it should. All extensions and themes require certain builds of Firefox like 1.04, 1.01 etc.. Try safemod for while. If it hang while in safemode let me know.
