Question

Firefox lag/ hanging

Jun 19, 2016 12:46PM PDT

I've cleared the cache & cookies several times, checked (or unchecked) the box for acceleration, & it might sometimes work for a while, but this browser seems to Always go back to *major* lag & hang. I'm tired of having to reset it.
Also, I read that the problem could be a plug-in or add-on. So I've restarted it with them disabled & I still get it.
I can't say it's *constant*, but every time I think I've fixed it...& I do have the latest version.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I'll sometimes get that annoying "Stop / Continue Script" error message.

My usual script support call ends when we find Norton or other overreaching antivirus suites.

There is no cure that fits all for the symptoms you listed. Keep supplying details.

Example. One member had that awful AMD E1 laptop. Sorry but that is just going to timeout a lot. Nothing to fix!

things to try

did you try completely resetting firefox settings? did you try another browser to see if it has the same issue? did you try disabling your antivirus and antimalware utilities to see if they are causing the problem?

I have noticed this on various PCs and found the only cure is to "wait". It usually will snap back and work as if nothing happens. That "script error" seems to come and go as well. I find if I have too many links open it tends to be generated. I do hit the F5 key to refresh and its seems to start clean again, but it may also repeat on the next link that's awaiting. Of course, I find this doesn't happen with Chrome at all, but use Firefox now and then anyways. One reason i stay away from Firefox is the constant updates sooner or later, I suppose that will correct the issues too.

Hello,

I have also had this issue in the past. I uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it to no avail. However i switched to internet explorer for now and things are going smoothly. I would wait for a couple more updates and personally contact Mozilla. I had this issue on my aunt's computer and just switched her and her bookmarks over to internet explorer. That's what i would suggest for now.
