Hello LiveIt24Seven,
the AVG Toolbar can be updated independently to make it compatible with Firefox 4 (providing the toolbar is installed in an older Firefox version currently):
- Open your Firefox.
- Click the small black triangle next to the "AVG" logo and select "Update".
- Wait for the update to be finished.
Now, you can upgrade the Firefox to 4.0 and the toolbar will be still present there. Please note however, the Search-Shield (evaluating search results with icons) won't be functional until the following AVG program update.
Thank you.
I'm a longtime user of AVG and feel alot safer when it's Toolbar is present and working and how it shows me which sites are safest when I Google search. Until a few months back, by browser was always IE but upon hearing IE8 would be the last version made (only to recently find out IE9 is now available), I decided to install Firefox but my AVG toolbar and search sites marked safe no longer appeared so I uninstalled Firefox and then installed Chrome. Same thing happened so I uninstalled Chrome. Then I read that AVG must be uninstalled after switching to a new browser so I reinstalled it after I had reinstalled Firefox (forget the version, something like 3.1.4 and AVG was version 8 or 9 but recently upgraded to 10). My AVG Toolbar and Link Scanning finally appeared. Then I noticed all my search results no longer had any green stars (safest sites) or best checkmarked sites indicated any longer but by rehitting Google's Search button once or twice again or your Enter or Return key, while leaving/keeping the same original search criteria as your input, the green stars and safe checkmarked sites would then appear, but this keeps happening for every new Google search you do.
Just upgraded to Firefox 4 (and am in the midst of submitting the last few weeks' of online course assignments to be followed by a final exam online) only to have a Firefox box pop up to advise me AVG's Toolbar and my dated HP Printer is incompatible. I'm beyond frustrated and could just scream. Tired of all this uninstalling/reinstalling. I suppose it's asking too much that I want Mozilla (preferably) or Chrome, and all my AVG components working, and use Google to search. I have no time or desire now to try and fix this problem until my final online exam is completed.
I did notice though that before Firefox 4, my computer had slowed down so much. When everything had finally appeared to be working good in Firefox 3.1.4, it was taking longer and longer for my browser window to open upon startup, like almost two minutes! But further tabbed openings after that appear instantly, as they usually did. I use Windows XP and have checked current processes running and see nothing large running and it indicates my CPU is at 3%.
Just putting this out here for now as I don't need anymore headaches at this moment but will address this matter as soon as I can after my course but I would welcome all constructive and polite suggestions (I am by no means a computer whiz) and others sharing their knowledge and experience.
