Question

Firefox download issue

Sep 20, 2011 2:49AM PDT

Hi - I downloaded Firefox and am unable to get rid of the window where you move it to app file. Also, the item "Firefox" won't delete either. Every time I open the browser, the window and "Firefox" are there again! Help me get rid of them, please!

Clarification Request
did you try to restart/log out?

Usually, such things clear after a restart.

Did that!

Hey- I did that and the window is still there. Not only that, I just updated my Firefox and the new version is doing the same thing. The old window went away when i got rid of that old version. I can use w/ the window there, but it's annoying and I want to know why it won't delete.

could be corrupt preference file

Go to Users>yourname>Library>preferences and drag to the desktop a file org.mozilla.firefox.plist. Restart Firefox. Hopefully this will do it. If yes, trash the old preference file from the desktop. If not, repair permissions on your computer.

Didn't work as suggested.

I believe i did what you suggested correctly. The file etc. is still on the desktop when I open Firefox. How do I repair permissions? I can't find "permissions" anywhere. I've a Macbook Pro mid-2009 model and use OSX 10.5.

Permissions repair
Sep 24, 2011 5:48AM PDT

this is a first standard procedure for Mac maintenace. Go to Applications>Utilities and find Disk Utility. You might like to drag the icon to the Dock for future use. Open DU and in the left hand window click on Macintosh HD. In the right hand window an option will appear to repair permissions. Click on it and wait (from 3 to 15 minutes) until it is complete. Close DU, log out and log in. If this does not help, go to users>yourname>Library>permissions and drag to the desktop the file com.apple.finder.plist. Again log out and log in. Chances are the reluctant window would be gone.

Thanks Macnerd10! The fix worked fine. The annoying window is gone! I had moved it back to apps just so I wouldn't have to look at it any longer. You know your stuff Happy
