FireFox and Internet Security

Nov 14, 2004 1:43PM PST

Hi - I have Windows XP Home and am using Yahoo's browser version of IE.

I have downloaded Firefox browser as the default browser.

I would like to continue using both browsers.

Which Internet Security Suite would be compatible with both browsers? Currently using Pc-Cillin 2005 Security Suite on a trial basis and apparently doesn't support Firefox browser. They claim that Firefox takes up the CPU space.

Please advise me what to use for security and virus.
Have Spybot, Ad-aware and Spywareblaster.

Thank you for your anticipated response.

Pc-cillin is the best virus protection you can buy, in my opinion. I have used it for years and never had a problem getting rid of viruses. It will protect you from anything coming into your computer no matter what browser you are using. You just need to make sure its setup right. Make sure realtime scan is set to scan everything. Samething with manual scan. Make sure there set to clean and then quarantine. make sure boot sector is checked on and, that spyware is checked on.Keep using your adware/spyware programs for the small stuff. IE uses more cpu than firefox Skip

Oma, It's Your Choice About Which One's Best

Currently, there are very few antivirus companies which are able to use Firefox as their update browser. It doesn't mean that Firefox isn't "compatible" with the antivirus program. They just need Internet Explorer set as default so they can update. Most require Internet Explorer to be default, some have plug ins for Netscape, and some are planning on getting plug ins for Firefox.

Most importantly, even though you may need to use Internet Explorer to update the security software, you can still use Firefox. It just won't be default. All our machines have Internet Explorer set as the default browser so updates can occur, but I use Firefox as my main "surfing" browser. Firefox places an icon on the desktop that can be used to open it quickly and easily.

Point is....If you like PC-Cillin, or any other effective antivirus program, use it. There shouldn't be any major problems with Firefox.

Hope this helps.
