For me...
Sep 10, 2005 1:32AM PDT

I get a message "Pins cannot connect due to not supporting the same transport. (Error=80040266)" since I didn't install WMP 9 or later. In fact I don't use WMP at all so there is likely more stuff that won't work.

My choice.

In your case, you can use IE for CNN but keep in mind that there are no plans to make Mozilla/Firefox to work with all sites.

But the cnn video works in my pc, do you think there is configuration that's blocking the connection?

Yes.

Now the fun begins as you try to find out what's different. I see you have 2 discussion threads going on this so I'll wait to see which you decide to work.

My CNN Video experience is poor...
Sep 10, 2005 2:23AM PDT

Like you and using Firefox I have never had good experience with CNN video. Being on dialup I attribute some to that ;however, at times I do receive a popup about some plug-in that is needed and not being able to verify that I have Windows Media Player 9 (which I have) or later. It wants to update Media Player which I refuse. Sometimes after long delays it will play the video but not satisfactorily. So personally I forget about video in CNN but do visit the site regularily. It's always been like this with CNN and they continually try popups which Firefox blocks.

Just a little information and my experience. I had no better experience when I used Internet Explorer... no longer used except for XP Updates.

Best of luck!

No problem here, but...
Sep 10, 2005 7:40AM PDT

I'm running the latest release version of Firefox (1.0.6) on Windows XP Pro with Windows Media Player 10 installed and haven't experienced any problems. The only glitch is that when using Firefox, I am told that I do not have WMP9 or higher installed. I just click ''continue to video'' and everything's fine. For me, the video quality has been very good, and much better than that from other news sites, NFL.com, Cnet, etc. (I have a 4Mbps cable connection, though it has its ups and downs.)

What version of Firefox are you running, and do you have any extensions installed? (''NoScript'' maybe?) Also, make sure WMP10 (required by CNN.com) is functioning properly by playing a video file stored locally, then going to another website that uses WMP.

John

P.S. Do you happen to know the exact message? It would definately help.

Thanks for the heads-up with a new version of Firefox
Sep 14, 2005 2:45PM PDT

John, I thought I had the latest version since I have had it only one month or so. WRONG!!! had Mac 1.05. Went to Mozilla.com and just updated to 1.0.6 for the Mac.
Thank you!

Tonight and within the last week, I could not shut down Firefox without a force quit. Wonder why? Was Firefox 1.0.5 buggy? Hard to start up and very hard to quit out of also. Some times I had to do a re-boot of the Mac to exit Firefox.
Any known problems with the 1.0.6 version?
Hope that it is better than 1.0.5 version.
Was going to try Mac Safari Browser again and avoid Firefox.

Anything you can think of with the latest version of Firefox and what was updated or what is new would be appreciated. We will see what happens.
John, I will post to you after using the latest version of Firefox, which I am using right now!
