Question

Firefox and Chrome's images are lighter, why?

Sep 24, 2013 8:47PM PDT

This is a really weird problem and I don't know how to fix it.
Let's take this random profile for example: http://www.gaiaonline.com/profiles/12280484/

When I view it using Firefox or Chrome, it looks like this: http://i40.tinypic.com/k4doxy.png
For the sake of comparison, you will notice that the image is lighter than the background color.

When I view it using Internet Explorer, it looks like this: http://oi39.tinypic.com/2ch99h4.jpg
In this one, you can see that the image is in correct color, and it actually matched the coded background color.

So what's up with that? Why does FF and Chrome make the image lighter?

Answer
Deep question. Because of color management in browsers.

Same browser.

Me, my friend, and my girlfriend are using Firefox version 25.0.1
Somehow they see the image as darker, but they're lighter on mine.
Is there something on (or not on) my Firefox that is causing it?

It's a long list of causes.

But did you calibrate the screens with something like a Pantone Huey?

If not, can you reveal why you would expect uncalibrated screens to match.
