Firefox 66 Irritant. Tabs becoming new separate windows

With the newer Firefox versions, particularly 66, I kept having tabs suddenly becoming separate new browser pages. That I find extremely irritating. It seems now a webpage can "force" any tab to become a full new browser page if configured to do so, and Firefox default allows it. You can change it however. Found this posted just yesterday.

"I have always had this set, but suddenly links have started opening in a new window [another Firefox browser opens], and despite checking open in new tab is set, it continues. "

For future, putting the "'fix" here.

open about:config
and put in the following at appropriate spots.

browser.link.open_newwindow
, put 3
browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction put 0
browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external put -1

Thanks but

I'm on 68.0.1 and it hasn't done this forever. I haven't found a good enough reason to run older versions but I'm sure someone has.

older versions

I got 66 when I upgraded linux mint 17.3 to version 18.3. My objection to upgrading every new version issued is typically things I have set the way I want my browser to appear, suddenly are changed yet again. I prefer constancy in appearance, and dislike having add-ons suddenly deprecated, especially when no new update for the add-on. When they did that major change around version 57, that was a disappointment as most add-ons failed on the newer system and no replacements were available for awhile. There are some still using ESR revisions since that time rather than move on.

I like it when addons die.

Many had security issues so this helps me keep the browser clear of possible exploits.

My addons are pretty basic so it was No Big Deal (NBD) when one addon failed. I've heard folk complain about this but it's a good thing. Evolve or die.

You must love a flat tire...

...because it means you can put on a new one in better condition, if you can only find it at the tire store.

I hear you.

But here, no flat tires. All the addons I use were updated. I'm lucky that way.
