General discussion

Firefox

I see lots of recommendations to install and use Firefox 1.0. I currently have IE6 which I use along with Outlook Express 6.0 and Netscape 7.1 and Netscape email which my wife uses.
If I install Firefox, will it transfer favorites from IE or Bookmarks from Netscape? Also, what about email address books in Netscape(wife) and Outlook Express(mine)?

Yes, when you install Firefox it should ask you if you want to transfer IE favorites and Netscape's Bookmarks.

I'm not sure about Thunderbird's Address book. Thunderbird is the Firefox version of the email program.

I'm pretty sure you can export Netscape's Address book entries to a file, then import that file to Thunderbird's address book, because I bet they would use the same file name extension, (".ldif" file), but Outlook Express exports it's address book to a .wab file, and I am not sure how you would import that to Thunderbird.

My experience. I installed Firefox 1.0 and continue to have Internet Explorer for Windows Updates which I left as the default browser. Yes Firefox will ask if you wish to import Favorites but leaves them intact in IE. If not asked you can do it manually from the toolbar.

My experience has been very good and I removed Internet Explorer from the Quicklaunch and replaced it with Firefox.

Hope this helps with procedures. Firefox is easy to install and remove if desired. No conflicts with anything I have.

Auggie, I have not personally done this... always imported at the time Firefox was installed. Done this several times.

But this is the manual procedure: Firefox Toolbar->Bookmarks->Manage Bookmarks...->From Bookmarks Manager Screen->Select "File" and choose "Import"... follow prompts.

You won't have any problem so just be on the alert for a chance to import Favorites when installing then there will be no need for the above procedure.

Best of luck,

You can export favorites out of IE , it makes a html file...

then when you get Firefox installed you can import that html file thru Firefox's bookmark manager. Here's a starter website for people new to Firefox. I find it a good practice to always backup your bookmarks, that way if something ever goes wrong you can always import them back.
