Firefox 1.0.4 problems

Jun 5, 2005 10:29PM PDT

Help! I downloaded firefox 1.0.4 on to my Gateway PIII, Win ME PC and have had many problems since. It won't let me download anything; like my yahoo toolbar, or any firefox extentions or anything! I have done the usual in tools/options/allow certain downloads but still dont get past the 'install now' step. After i click on the install now an ''Extentions' box opens. It has nothing in it other than check for updates. Which it will check for updates but never find any. I tried to install extentions too but same problem. I tried to uninstall firefox and download it again but that didn't work either! When I went in the firefox help menu I still couldn't find an answer. I went into C://Windows/application data/Mozilla/firefox/profiles and created a user.js file. Then followed more instructions and created a usercontent.css file. I created one more file but I forgot the name (I'm at work now). some of the files firefox said would be in this folder didn't exist (ex. usercontent-example). Even after i created these files I don't nknow what to do. Help, anyone?

Firefox 1.0.4......................
Jun 6, 2005 4:06AM PDT

I may not have any answers but for what it's worth (and what I'm going to charge you!), Firefox has some drawbacks. Since websites are all written for MS software, they sometimes do not show correctly in Firefox. The Cnet Forums page has some slight flaws on my PC (and I would assume others too), and the website of a friend of mine: www.paknico.com also has small glitches. If these are a problem, I switch to IE! Don't like to, but what are ya' goin' to do? I know that Firefox does not use ActiveX. I know nothing about Yahoo! but there may be basic conflicts between it and Firefox. It used to be that I could not access Microsoft Updates from Firefox, but I think that has been fixed. Anything that can't co-exist with IE does not survive long! Can't understand your problems since I've never had them! I've used Firefox and Thunderbird since Firefox was called Firebird.

HI wsears

I had simuliar problems when I downloaded 1.0.4

Firefox suggestion was that the profile was cluttered with so many upgrades.

I did a clean uninstalled add/remove,program files,registry and then re-installed.

They have a program on there site that will back-up your extension etc if you need.

Hope this helps
Ray

Thanks Ray, I tried to uninstall once but I don't think it uninstalled everything. I will try this again and look for anything related to make sure I did a clean sweep. Last time I forgot to check my profile and misc. files. That is one of the few downfalls of Firefox, having to do so much of the work with the profiles files!
Thanks again,
Wendy
