Firefox 1.0.3 -- bugs since installing it

Apr 18, 2005 4:16AM PDT

I updated a few hours ago and since then:

1. Popup windows WILL NOT OPEN even on sites where I've chosen to allow them. These aren't advertising popups; they're popup windows within a web-based application. I've tried using IE and the popups work there.

2. When I shut down Firefox, firefox.exe is not terminated and I have to kill it thru Task Manager or the browser won't reload.

3. When I reload the browser, it fails to load my home page; I have to close it and try a 2nd time, and that works.

Any easy way to back out of an update? I'd like to go back to v1.0.2 until these issues are ironed out.

I went to the Firefox support site and saw that another user has reported the popup problem.

Hi Josh...
Apr 18, 2005 8:57AM PDT

I downloaded it the day it was released and have had no problems. Since you just downloaded, check the recycle bin and see if the 1.0.2 installer is still there, if so restore it. You may have got a bad download, you can try uninstalling in control panel, and reinstall. If that doesn't work and you still have the 1.0.2 uninstall the 1.0.3 and use the other one. If you dont have it, I'm sure there is a place on Mozilla that still has the older versions.
Hope this will help.

Firefox 1.0.3
Apr 18, 2005 9:52AM PDT

I installed it and it took a while to get everything back to the way I had it setup with 1.0.2 but now things seem to be working well.

I've had it crash twice in the last three days though. I was viewing a very large .pdf file (36MB) and it crashed and then the second time viewing a very large quicktime file.

Just my experience.

I had to delete my profile info (which is preserved when you do a standard uninstall, and install 1.0.2 "clean." Everything seems fine now. I think I'll hold off on 1.0.3 until the kinks are ironed out.

Josh, 1.0.3 installed...
Apr 19, 2005 1:20AM PDT

without any problem and operates "slick as a button". Am unaware of or seen any kinks whatsoever.

I simply did a standard uninstall of the old version and all preferences ans settings were retained in the new version. Using Windows XP SP-2.

If possible, you need this version for the added security it offers.

Good luck!

No problems this time. Maybe I had a corrupted installation last time. All seems well now.

Congratulations Josh!

Grin It's usually some small problem like you experienced. Could not bear the thoughts that you give up and loose the security updates. Wink

Safe computing!

Your Welcome Josh,
Apr 19, 2005 2:27AM PDT

It's always good to remove the old version, then do a clean install. I always save the old installer for 3 or 4 days, just in case I need to revert back to the old version. Also as Glenn30 said, try to get the new version as soon as you can, so you will have the latest security. Firefox is much safer than IE, but nothing is 100%.
Glad we could help.
Good Luck.

I have that problem too
Apr 20, 2005 8:35PM PDT

and none of my extensions work at all. Adblock gone even though I've reinstalled.

I hope I can fix it.I'd hold off on updating until they fix it.

New extension available
Apr 18, 2005 10:28AM PDT

There are new updates to several extensions. Popup Allow 0.2.2 seems to have solved the problem you described. I went to cnn.com and was able to bring up the popup when I held down the Caps Lock key. When I tried again without the key held down, it blocked the popup.
