Firefox 0.9.2 Problems With WinMe

Jul 16, 2004 1:41PM PDT

1. All my passwords/websites are saved in the Password Manager. When I get to the sites, my password shows up, but I still have to go through the login process (no problem if I use IE, though) Why is this happening? (I never logout.) How do I get my login to stay?

2. I reinstalled Firefox three times. After each install I have a nice Help menu with four items listed, one containing a Help Index. After using Firefox for a day, I end up with only "Release Notes" and "About Mozilla Firefox" listed. Where do the other 2 items disappear to?? It seems a bit silly to reinstall the program each time I want to use the Help contents.

1. The behaviour is the same from IE to Firefox for me. What will not behave the same is if you were used to what Gator or some other form filler that would finish the login. Of course I can only write that it's the same for the sites I use.

2. I'll have to try this. Didn't notice that and I'm on the machine with Mozilla only at the moment.

You do realize there is BUGZILLA and a place to report such bugs?

Gator on MY machine? No way! Nor do I have another program to complete forms. I did spend two days searching the Mozilla Firefox Discussions before posting here. There was one other similar problem with no replies, but I did not report my problem because I figured the developers would be monitoring the forums for bug problems -- maybe not. Nevertheless, I will go back and register my problem with Bugzilla. I also installed Firefox on XP Home which has the exact IE settings as my ME and a lot of the same programs, except that it is, of course, a different OS . I have had no problem with Firefox on the XP.
Will keep working on the ME's problem. Thanks.

Tough to duplicate. Here's why.

When Windows ME came out, an issue erupted in that this simple BASIC line of code failed.

10 LPRINT "TEST."

We went to the trouble of reducing the problem to this level so to submit it to Microsoft and it went unresolved. The funny thing is that this works in Windows 3, 95, 98, NT, 2000, XP and other Windows. Just ME had the issue.

As such, we banned Windows ME from the Office, loading Windows 2000 on machines that showed up with ME. In the lab we had one Windows ME box to kick around and a few months ago the last Windows ME box at home glitched and I installed Windows 2000. Much better.

I will not be able to test your issue, but on Windows 98 it behaved the same as IE as to logins.

You may have found another fine Windows ME issue.

Head scratcher then.
Jul 18, 2004 4:10AM PDT

Months ago I posted in the Windows ME forum about the demise of my last Windows ME box. Given something about there is no profit in me running Windows ME (all puns and Ferengi implied rules are intentional), I will not load up Windows ME on a box solely for testing. The office had its fill of this loved version and just made it a written policy that our software may or may not work on it. We don't support that version and only can offer the person paid support with no assurance of resolving their issue. The LPRINT issue points to "something" Microsoft removed, but they never put back in.

Thanks for letting me whip Windows ME a little.

Perhaps...
Jul 18, 2004 9:18AM PDT

Thank you, Bob and Marianna.
We can only surmise that Mozilla Firefox is so sophisticated that, after a few Googles, it detects the learning style of the user and automatically deletes Help files based on the premise that they would be incomprehensible to that particular operator.
On the other hand, that theory would contradict why the program ceases to remember a login.
Maybe the next version will address my problem -- as soon as I can find its Help menu.

Version 9.3 Better!
Aug 4, 2004 10:28AM PDT

Just to let you and anyone else with my problem know:
I updated to 9.3 and my Help menu seems to remain where it should be.

The passwords stay as they did with 9.2, but I am still required to login at sites requiring such. Perhaps that will work in the next version.
