Resolved Question

Fingerprint reader not working Thinkpad R61 and can't login

Sep 9, 2011 12:01AM PDT

Hello, I've been logging into my R61 using my fingerprint reader for the past couple years and forgot my password.

And then suddenly yesterday, my fingerprint reader stopped working saying "dependency service failed to start" and now the welcome screen doesn't even prompt for the reader with its red icon screen.

I've been logging in as Guest to just use internet and email but it's getting old really quick because I don't have administrator privileages to install programs or do anything to the computer.

Is there any way for me to fix this issue? Or if I buy a new computer, can I just retrieve the information from this computer by taking the hard-drive out and just putting it into a new computer?THank you

P.S.
I've tried safe mode and booting last known good configuration. Does not work.

For cases like this, we always advice to have (at least) 2 admin accounts.

Now download a copy of NTPASSWD, burn it to CD (as an .iso file) and use that to change the password of your one and only admin account. Then make a second one (and don't forget that password!)
