Finding the right forum!!

Nov 1, 2005 3:22PM PST

I am looking to assist in creating a space online where i can have a forum, and have profiles for each member of the groups. what options are out there that are free? i am most familiar with Yahoo groups, but want to steer away from using yahoo. i was looking at Google Groups, but it had a plain feel to it and it didnt seem the members would be able to create profiles to network between members.. are there any other sites that i could use, or would i have to create a whole site on my own and include a forum on it? are there terms i need to be more aware of when looking for something like this?

this forum/site would be primarily used for collaboration in a council, being able to network among members, and posting information and discussions. it would also be really helpful to have a calendar option..

i would LOVE any help i can get with this!! thank you so much!!

If you ask google about forum software you should find phpbbs or similar in a few seconds.

Have you heard of this search tool?

I actually just posted something similar to this under a different question.....

Try proboards...they have members and groups and you can customize your forum and all that good stuff....and best of all....it's totally free! I use them for my band's site and a few others. They're pretty darn good.
