Question

Finding old Dell Precision 390

Dec 17, 2018 11:22AM PST

Would anyone know a site where I might find old computers for sale? A Dell Precision 390 with Intel Core2 Quad processor running Windows XP Pro sp3. They were sold 10-15 years ago. There's none on Craigslist within the 200 miles radius they allow.

Need it as a backup for a computer that runs some legacy software that won't install on even Windows 7.

Thanks.

Thank you but I'm looking for the actual machine. I'm using a Dell Precision 390 now and want a backup that uses the same drivers, etc so I can easily swap in my hard drive if this computer dies.

Thanks

Then keep searching.

I assume you already have a contingency plan for when the hard drive dies.

I found two of them on Amazon.

I did that long ago and found out about Microsoft's....

Microsoft even in XP detected that the machine had changed enough to ask for Windows XP to be activated.

As I was the author of the app that didn't run on W10 I spend a few weeks finding out why and have issued new versions so this app I published in 1995 can run today. I'm sure most software authors like myself will update when need be and when paid.

Forgot about another method I used.

Thank you everyone. The posts are really helpful. And yes, I do back up my files--every 15 minutes to multiple locations on other computers. Losing my work once around 30 years ago was all it took!

Thank you.
