Accessing memory slots on the eMachine D528-2496

I literally just completed this process. Here are my steps:
1. Unplug the AC adapter from the laptop
2. Remove the battery from the laptop
3. Find a small screwdriver and completely unscrew all of the screws on the bottom of the laptop...including all of the screws in the battery bay. Please continue on and read steps 4 and 5 before removing the screws...there's a tip coming.
4. Safely ground yourself in order to remove any static charges from your skin.
5. Gently (with your fingers) pry the bottom of the case from the top. The entire bottom of the case lifts off. Be aware that you cannot lift straight up as the audio ports in the front stick out. You will need to lift up and away from the audio ports. If you're careful, you will not need to remove the screws completely from the case bottom before lifting it (except for the screws in the battery case...they must come out). The screws will just float in each of their holes. This trick will relieve you of having to remember which screw goes into which hole.
5. Now most of the essentials of the laptop are sitting in front of you: memory (2 slots...1 is installed already with a 2GB chip), CPU and fan, hard drive.
6. Complete your upgrade.
7. Carefully replace the panel and tighten all of the screws. Make sure you don't forget the screws from the battery compartment.

That's it! Enjoy!

memory upgrade on emachine D528-2496

you have to take the entire back panel off the laptop. there are 24 screws on the back panel including 6 screws under the battery. all these need to be unscrewed to expose the memory slot. laptop comes with 2g ddr 3 memory occupying first slot. you can insert additional 2g ddr 3 memory to the 2nd slot to upgrade. memory slot is visible soon as back panel is removed on the middle.
