finding editor's choices by year? for utilities or software?

You can browse through listings of previous Editor's Choice award winners at http://reviews.cnet.com/editors-choice, with the products grouped by category and sorted by date. However, not all award winners are included, with archived products excluded from the listings.

Another important note is that there will be no more Editor's Choice - Software award winners. The decision was made a few months ago that software will no longer be reviewed/covered by the Reviews team, with all future editor's reviews being issued by the Downloads team. While software reviews arguably fall into their purview, the Downloads team does not use Editor's Choice awards, letting their 5-star ratings speak for themselves. Such ratings are used to generate the Top Downloads lists/recommendations, such as this one, that you may find increasingly useful following this transition.
