I can recommend the Epson Perfection 4990 as I use it to scan 35mm slides and negs, 2.25 x 2.25 negatives and 4 x 5 negatives. Supplied film holders work great and features such as DigitalIce4 make for clean scans. Priced at just over your budget at NewEgg.com

I hear that the CanonScan 9950F is also very good with many of the same capabilities as the Epson 4490. Under your budget max at:

Hi all.
I am in the market for a scanner that handles negative film as well as positive slides/transperancies.
My budget is about a max of $400.
I dont care how it does with prints as I already have a scanner I love for that.
I need the scanner to digitize old family pictures where all thats left are the negatives and slides.
And also to digitize new negatives for my publication.
so far the one I have found that a lot of people seem to be happy with is the Canoscan 8400F by Canon.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
